THIS IS MAGGIE

THIS IS JANIE

CASTING

Megan and Elizabeth became fast friends after graduating from the same MFA program at The American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University.  When Megan was screening her first film, Everybody Does It, Elizabeth jumped on board as publicist, social media-expert, and partner in crime. They quickly realized their shared passion for independent filmmaking and naturally decided to collaborate on Buttercup. Elizabeth embodies Janie's carefree, fun attitude. Much like Janie, Elizabeth lifts the mood in every room she enters and isn't afraid to clown around to make people smile. Megan's personal experience with loss and grief gives her a deep understanding of the character Maggie and great appreciation for true friendship. Elizabeth and Megan's friendship in real life is much like Maggie and Janie's in Buttercup, together they tackle adventure with a sense of humor and joy for the process.

Maggie is a loving, passionate woman who is buried by grief. She recently lost her mother and is visiting her hometown where she left behind so many memories years ago. As teenagers, she and Janie were best friends who were always laughing and seeking adventure. Fifteen years later, having gone through a divorce and the loss of her mother, Maggie struggles to remember how to have fun with Janie like old times.

Janie is a force of nature. She lights up a room with her bright eyes and generous smile and never wastes a moment on self pity or pessimism. She is the Yang to Maggie's Yin, and now more than ever Maggie needs Janie to build her back up and remind her to enjoy life.
